Kyuquot Sound Shoreline Clean Up
RCRS teamed up with Ka:'yu:'k't'h'/Che:k:tles7et'h First Nations in summer 2021 for a large-scale remote shoreline marine debris clean up in the Kyuquot Sound area on the west coast of Vancouver Island, funded by the Clean Coast Clean Waters (CCCW) initiative.
This Kyuquot Sound project was led by RCRS and administered by Coastal Restoration Society (CRS) as part of the CCCW and resulted in almost 10,000kgs of marine debris being removed from the environment.
The Kyuquot Sound area is a very challenging environment to access and navigate due to the exposure to the wild Pacific. The local knowledge brought to the team was paramount thanks to the Ka:'yu:'k't'h'/Che:k:tles7et'h First Nation and Kyuquot Village members.
