Departure Bay Community Beach Cleanup

Partnering with Seize Change - 120kgs debris removed.

In May 2019 Rugged Coast teamed up with New Zealand’s Seize Change for an initiative in Nanaimo to clean up Departure Bay and bring awareness to the marine debris problem in our local waters. This community-based beach walk and clean-up was an open invitation to anyone who wished to get involved. It resulted in 120kgs of debris being removed and some great information to be shared with the local community.

Seize Change is a couple from New Zealand who circumnavigated Vancouver Island in their sailboat stopping in communities to host shoreline cleanups and build awareness. This was one of their first stops and we were honoured to be invited as the local representatives.
